Shieldhill Castle's central location makes it ideal, not just for a variety of sporting venues, but also as a centre for those wanting to be otherwise entertained whilst the guns are shooting and the rods are casting, or who want to add something to their sporting visit.
Edinburgh and Glasgow are both less than an hour away and transport or hosted trips can be arranged. The Scottish Borders are very accessible and are steeped in history and beauty.
The Ayrshire coast is noted for its golf courses and seascapes. For those with parties shooting at Mennock and Drumlanrig, or fishing on the Nith, a trip around the famous Drumlanrig Castle is thoroughly recommended.
Laser shooting can be organised for you within the grounds of Shieldhill and is great fun for shooters and non-shooters alike.
The Mennock River is the centre of the well-known Mennock shoot, mentioned above, but is also acknowledged as containing more gold than any river in America or Australia. It will never make you rich, but supervised gold panning trips can be organised from Shieldhill that will give you a unique opportunity to see this beautiful area and, perhaps leave with a little gold of your own (dependant on season and the state of the water).
Or perhaps you have ideas of your own, just let us know and we will do our best to help.
